Unexpected Adventures

Wow, where to begin? I promised a recap of May, so that would be a good place to start I suppose. The last three week have been, well, amazing...a complete whirlwind. The race season had gotten off to a good start. Had some decent results in the early season, the legs had been feeling pretty good, and was settling in with my new team learning how to race with and work for teammates for the first time after spending my first 1.5 seasons racing solo. Much fun was being had...at least I thought I was having fun until a friend named Monique drove into town and I had the most amazing 2 weeks and 'fun' got a whole new definition.

Sometimes a random turn of events leads to an even greater experience. When Mo called a month ago and asked to come visit for a few days on her way cross-country, destination Oregon coast, I thought sure, this will be fun to have another cyclist around for a couple of days. I had no idea her visit would lead to meeting 3 crazy Aussies, living out of an RV with 4 other people (and a large dog) for a few days, and racing (oh yeah and winning) my first MTB race.

Here's the Aussie trio in all their glory enjoying the mountains of Colorado.

It took a few days to get used to the Aussie accent and lingo. Here's a snippit of what the Australians taught me:
Bangs = fringe;
Bell peppers = capsicum
Oatmeal = porridge (and should always be eaten topped with brown sugar)
Things aren't "sketchy", they're "dodgy"
You don't "talk to" someone, you "have a chat to" someone.
There are no SuperTargets in Australia...aren't Americans lucky?
SunChips don't exist in Australia.

And wasabi should never been eaten straight up because you'll end up looking like this....

Crazy things happen that we can't always plan, and really who would want to? Here's the latest unplanned amazing thing to happen to me. I'll let the pictures do the talking...

No Chipotle in Australia...gotta stock up while you're in the States. How many "burritos the size of your head" can Chris eat in one trip to the US? Too many to count.

Sometimes the best moments in life are unplanned.

In the words of my new Australian friends...Cheers!
