Stop # 2: Phoenix
I left Durango yesterday morning for Phoenix, Az. I was tempted to go for another MTB ride before leaving, but I was pretty bruised and sore from the 2 previous rides. Plus, my coach had me scheduled for a 30-minute "embarrassingly slow" run. Hmm...it is hard to run embarrassingly slow. I'd call it more a 'jog' than a run. One good thing about running really slowly is that you can take a lot of pictures! Durango has a great bike path that runs along the Animas River and next to the downtown area. I never did get in the river to go tubing. Both days when I headed out to go rent a tube, it started to rain. Guess this means I have to come back!
Another fun Durango fact: City Slickers was filmed here.
I stopped in 4 Corners and paid the $3 entrance fee to get into the park and stand in 4 states at one time. Why? Because it was there. And it was the most exciting thing I'd seen in the 2 hours I'd left Durango.
I definitely had the most creative pose. Everyone else was kneeling on the 4 corners. All the old people got really excited when I broke out this cool move.
But I had to wait in this long line. I swear there were no other cars on the road, but then I pulled into the 4 corners parking lot, and it was packed with people. How did they all get there?!
I landed in Phoenix around suppertime. I'm staying with my friend Bobby who just moved here from Denver. He has cactuses (or is it cacti?) in his front yard instead of trees. And a pool in the back!
Fun fact about Phoenix: it is HOT!
...at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt...
